Chromium oxide (Cr2O3) is a specialist fine ceramic that is often employed in challenging high-temperature environments. Typically blended with either aluminum oxide (Al2O3) or zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), chromium oxide ceramics are available in a choice of grades and formats to suit the needs of various process conditions.
Saint-Gobain’s Cr2O3 ceramic grades are engineered using a selection of bonding and forming techniques, which are determined by the ratios of the component parts. Although Cr2O3 ceramics are most commonly engineered with alumina or zirconium-based additives, high-purity chromium oxide refractories are available with negligible additive content and are offered in the cast and fused condition.

Oxide-bonded chromium oxide with alumina is formed via blending, casting, or pressing, with the ability to include zirconium dioxide as an additional component. We can also produce proprietary mixtures based on novel chemical arrangements. For example: Magnesium oxide (MgO) can be pressed with chromium oxide to yield oxide-bonded magnesia-chrome.
