Lancer Refrax

FAQ

How does reaction-bonded silicon carbide differ from direct sintered SiC?

Reaction-bonded silicon carbide (RBSC) differs from direct sintered silicon carbide (SSiC) in its manufacturing process and properties. RBSC is produced by infiltrating molten silicon into a porous silicon carbide body, resulting in a composite with silicon nitride bonding phases. This gives RBSC excellent thermal shock resistance and moderate strength. In contrast, SSiC is made by directly sintering silicon carbide powder, resulting in a denser and more uniform structure, providing higher mechanical strength and hardness but lower thermal shock resistance than RBSC.

What is nitride bonded silicon carbide?

Nitride-bonded silicon carbide (NBSiC) is a composite material where silicon carbide (SiC) grains are held together using a silicon nitride (Si3N4) binder phase. This combination provides excellent thermal shock resistance, high mechanical strength, and outstanding durability in high-temperature and corrosive environments.

Where is NBSiC used?

Nitride-bonded silicon carbide (NBSiC) is used in various high-temperature and high-wear applications which benefit from its exceptional durability and thermal shock resistance. It is commonly employed in kiln furniture, refractory bricks, and components for industrial furnaces. NBSiC is also ideal for use in launders, degassing rotors, and other equipment exposed to harsh environments in metal processing, ceramics, and glass manufacturing industries.
