Our SEPR Italia plant, known for producing refractory blocks for glass furnaces and iron and steel markets, obtained EPD for its Magmalox® (MGX) production.

What is EDP®?

The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD®) comprehensively assesses a product's environmental impact across its entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction to production, use, and disposal.

In the construction industry, EPDs empower architects, builders, and project managers to consider the environmental footprint of construction materials and contribute to creating more sustainable structures. Why did Magmalox® obtain EPD®?

What is Magmalox®?

Magmalox® refers to a range of products created by melting alumina ceramic powder in an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), with temperatures ranging between 2,000-2,500 ⁰C. After melting, the molten substance is poured into molds and undergoes annealing for nearly two weeks.

Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories is the only company globally to offer a range of four different grades of fused cast blocks, providing significant flexibility in addressing customer needs and resolving challenging situations for the hearth of reheating furnaces. Magmalox preserves the quality of rolled steel, homogenizes reheated product temperature, and prevents build-up and nodule formation, thus minimizing rejects.
