NORFLOW® Self-flowing Castable

The NORFLOW® castables range has been designed to be installed without using any installation tool, for example a vibrator.

The products are self flowing, meaning that customers are simply required to prepare the mix and pour it into the mold or area. The product will flow into all zones automatically.

Key Benefits

  • Reduced downtime
  • Increased productivity
  • Time saving (no additional or specific preparation is necessary)
  • Better working conditions
  • Lower noise levels
  • Improved safety (no need to walk on formworks with vibrating needles)
  • Enhanced performance
  • Better aspect of surfaces and edges
  • Greater freedom in terms of structure design

NORFLOW K 1031 AL – A self-flowing castable, also achieving a 1 out of 5 on the Alcan immersion test.  This product offers the same aluminum resistance as NORCAST K 2000 with the advantage of ease of installation.  As a member of our NORFLOW line, this product can be cast in place with no vibration necessary, all while maintaining very minimal water additions.  This product is also ideal in reverberatory furnaces, ladles, and lintels.

Benefits:

  • Variety of refractory cements engineered specifically for aluminum casthouse applications
  • Self-flowing mixes require less water addition and eliminate the need for vibration
  • Our high strength castable cements resist the wear and tear associated with drossing and cleaning operations

Properties:

  • High quality raw materials sourced only from reputable suppliers
  • Resistance to attack by molten aluminum alloys
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Available with self-flowing additives for ease of installation

Case Study

Norflow A 973 used to replace conventional low cement castable for open top ladle application.
Norflow® A 973 to Reduce Ladle Patching and Repair

Challenge: The castables has to be resistant to erosion and impact due to metal pouring into the ladle. It needs as well to reduce the ladle patching and repair.

FAQ

Are these products suitable for ladle relining?

Yes. Many customers using ladles have already switched to NORFLOW® castables – particularly NORFLOW® 973 - citing ease of installation and increased performance in ladle applications.

Is it necessary to add extra water for better flowability?

No. NORFLOW® mixes demonstrate equal or better performance versus traditional castables. Their innovative bonding system requires less water than traditional castables. Guidance on optimal added water ratios is available on product datasheets.
