Saint-Gobain has supplied a complete range of refractory linings for carbon black reactors worldwide for more than 30 years. Custom engineered solutions for hot face and backup layers in hard black and soft black reactors include:
Chromcor® fired or precast chrome-alumina shapes
Alundum® AH199, AL100, Alfrax®101 high-purity alumina bricks
Thermal shock resistant Mullfrax® and AL 102 bricks
Ziral™ zirconia bricks for the highest temperature capability
Fused-cast Jargal M shapes for ultimate erosion resistance
Lightweight and dense castables
Joining cements and mortars
Trust Saint-Gobain engineers to develop and design ideal refractory materials for soft black reactors.
Carcass grade carbon blacks are made at a moderate temperature requiring >90% Al2O3 refractory furnace linings. These include high-purity alumina AL 100 or mullite Mullfrax® 202 HF bricks. MonoPural T pre-formed castable blocks can be a suitable alternative under certain operating conditions. Alumina dense and insulating castables such as Criram, RI34, or alumina-mullite bricks like MS4 or MS6 are widely used as backup layers.
Operated under highly demanding conditions to produce best quality, highest yield rates and longer run campaigns, each zone of hard black reactors requires a custom engineered solution.
High-purity alumina or alumina-chromia product categories with outstanding properties are in use, especially to ensure optimal operation temperature and best performance/cost ratio.
For the hot face lining, Saint-Gobain engineers Chromcor® BDAK, a 10% Cr2O3 alumina-chromia material, high-purity alumina AL100 or Alundum® AH199H shapes.
For Venturis, Monochromcor® 10, a 10% Cr2O3 pre-formed shapes or Monocriram high alumina/low cement pre-formed shapes are recommended. Low cement castables Chromcor® 10 and Criram offer economical solutions in the same reactor areas. In some special cases, fused cast Jargal M is used.
For extreme temperature conditions, Saint-Gobain offers a high zirconia product (ZA95) with outstanding refractoriness and thermal insulation properties.
Refractory design solutions developed together with customers and the Saint-Gobain engineering department ensure optimal fit with process parameters and operating conditions.
Backup and insulating layers are made of high alumina dense Supcast or insulating RI34 HR castables.
