The choice comes down to selecting the material that works best under high-temperature, dry atmosphere conditions. Pusher furnaces operating at temperatures around 2450°F (1345°C) have much different requirements than mesh-belt furnaces operating at temperatures around 2050°F (1120°C).
As a materials innovator, Saint-Gobain has the oxide refractory package to meet your high- temperature atmosphere furnace requirements. This includes a complete line of alumina, mullite and zirconia refractory products.
Furnace refractories provide insulation, support and wear resistance. Saint-Gobain can engineer bricks, muffles, hearth plates and kiln furniture in a variety of material combinations to suit your application.
Saint-Gobain high purity Alundum® and Alfrax® alumina materials minimize or eliminate contamination and degradation that results from the reduction and re-oxidation of silica, soda and potassia found in other refractory products. These alumina mixes remain stable in the driest high-temperature furnaces due to limited amounts of impurities that won’t leave unwanted deposits and shorten the lifespan of your refractory lining.
Alundum® and Alfrax® refractory systems provide long-lasting, durable linings in high- temperature atmosphere furnaces. For smaller resistance heated furnaces, Saint-Gobain offers high purity muffles that provide a stable and wear-resistant support medium for controlled firing conditions. Alundum® and Alfrax® brick and shapes support heavy loads. Hearth plates pro vide creep and sag resistance including a wear-resistant push surface. Saint-Gobain offers both dense and insulating high purity alumina refractory. Alundum® A599B is considered the highest purity insulating “bubble” alumina on the market.
Developed to meet the demand for improved energy efficiencies in high-temperature furnaces, kiln furniture from Saint-Gobain minimizes mass while maximizing strength, resulting in greater kiln capacity, reduced firing cycles and uniform heat distribution.
Saint-Gobain’s Mullfrax®, Mulnorite®, Alfrax® and Alundum® mixes are designed to survive aggressive cooling rates, low dew points and high temperature cycles.
