Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories is proud to highlight the successful collaboration with Urbaser Environnement on their incineration facility in the south of France. For this project, Urbaser Environnement entrusted us with the energy recovery system of their incinerator, choosing our T-Clip® Pro ceramic tiles to renovate a surface of 120 m². This tailored solution was designed to improve thermal conductivity performance while ensuring long-term durability, even under highly demanding operating conditions.
Following a complete change of refractories, the incinerator was successfully restarted in February 2022 and after three and a half years of operation, only four tiles on the vertical walls required replacement, a clear demonstration of the robustness and reliability of the solution.
The installation has demonstrated strong performance and reliability. Each year, it processes a significant volume of mixed waste, primarily household materials supplemented with higher-calorific content streams. The system operates under demanding conditions, yet it has consistently shown stability and durability. This is largely due to the combination of high-quality materials and an advanced design, which together ensure efficient waste treatment and long-term operational resilience.
One of the most significant operational improvements is the reduced need for shutdowns. Previously, the plant required maintenance stops every six months, but today it only shuts down once per year. Moreover, no additional safety measures are required, sandblasting has been eliminated, and maintenance inspections have been streamlined, limited primarily to identifying joints that need rework. For the first time, only the vault nose requires refurbishment, as observed during routine inspection.
While this may not qualify as a world record, it is certainly a remarkable achievement for both Urbaser Environnement and Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories and an undeniable source of satisfaction for the plant’s maintenance team. This project underscores the efficiency, durability, and reliability of T-Clip® Pro ceramic tiles in real-world, high-intensity applications.
