FAQ

Why use thermocouple insulators for aerospace applications?

Crushable thermocouple insulators provide critical thermal and electrical insulation resistance in swaged or drawn metal sheathed thermocouples.

Which product and material are the most suited to ensuring thermal and electrical insulation?

Alundum® fused Al2O3 and Magnorite® fused MgO crushable thermocouple insulators from Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories provide excellent thermal and electrical insulation resistance in swaged or drawn metal sheathed thermocouples.

Insulators are carefully threaded on thermocouple conductor wires and inserted into seamless metal tubing. The entire assembly is then swaged or drawn down to the desired dimensions. During swaging, the insulators readily crush into powder compacted around the wires to provide electrical insulation.

High purity materials and rigidly controlled physical and chemical properties ensure thermocouple accuracy.

Does Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories provide customized crushable insulators?

Crushable insulators from Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories can be manufactured in a wide range of configurations.

Crushable insulators are offered in standard diameters from 0.56 mm to 12.70 mm, in lengths from 25 mm to 102 mm and with one to four holes. Custom variations can be developed in virtually any configuration, making them ideal for the stringent and highly specific demands of the aerospace industry.

Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories’ team of qualified and experienced specialists is on hand to discuss any sizing or customization requirements.
