Carbofrax MC 1158 Mortar

High thermal conductivity silicon carbide mortar

MC 1158 is a high-strength silicon carbide mortar developed for application on the sidewall and bottom of an Aluminium reduction pot shell.  The purpose of this cement is to fill the voids created by warpage and bending of the shell during normal service.

After application by trowelling, the sidewall and bottom of the shell are once again quite level and flat, which provides the best surface for the maximum transfer of heat. This mortar promotes the maximum heat transfer between the silicon carbide or carbon sidewall or endwall block and the newly aligned shell.  The water addition to this mix has been minimized to maximize the final bond strength and provide the highest thermal conductivity possible.
